Scott Fikse is a Tacoma native turned Hawaiʻi transplant. In 2022 he returned to the Pacific Northwest to pursue doctoral studies in choral conducting at the University of Washington. There, he serves as a graduate teaching assistant in the School of Music and an instructor for the Program for Writing Across Campus.
A versatile bass-baritone equally at home across genres, Scott’s solo and ensemble work spans a wide range — from appearances with Celebrity Cruises, the Barbershop Harmony Society, and Diamond Head Theatre to chamber performances with Early Music Hawaiʻi, Hawaiʻi Vocal Arts Ensemble, and the Byrd Ensemble. He is also a member of the St. Mark’s Compline Choir. As a director Scott is rooted in a genuine desire to help each singer achieve greater vocal freedom, artistry, and authenticity as a performer. Currently, he serves as Artistic Director of Early Music Hawaiʻi, Director of Northwest Sound, and Conductor in Residence for the Northwest Edvard Grieg Society.
When he’s not singing or waving his arms, you can find him curled up with a good book or casting a line in the waters of the beautiful Pacific Northwest.
